I hope everybody is having a great start to the month. I’d like to report back on some of the projects I was working on around my own home. Do you ever feel like you have a never-ending list of things to do? I kind of feel like that with my personal organizing projects. Although I was able to organize my spices, this made me very happy. We are huge cooks in our house and menu planning is a huge part of our life so organizing the spices made it a lot easier for us to maintain our love for cooking!! I’ve always dreamed of having all my spices decanted into jars with custom labels. I found a company on Etsy that has been super easy to work with and we have organized several spice drawers for our clients since finding them! Check out my before and after pictures below!

Since I have started the tips from Tonia, it has been a great accountability platform for organization in my own home. The next tips I want to give are for your makeup drawer during spring cleaning and organizing.

It’s been a little while since I have assessed my makeup drawers in my bathroom. The first step is to take everything out of your makeup drawers, and start going through the items that you know are expired. Also, purge the samples that you’ll likely never use, or you just have too many of. This is a great time to really decide what facial products you really like, and don’t like.

You can ask yourself questions like, is it old? Do I actually use it? Is it broken? Do I have multiples of this item? Purge all the things that you really don’t use.

Here is a guide to expiration dates:

  • Liquid eyeliner and mascara, 3 to 4 months
  • Liquid foundation’s, one year
  • Lip gloss and lipstick, 6 months to one year
  • Powdered makeup, up to two years
  • Eyeshadow, 3 to 6 months

Helpful tip. Your expiration date starts when you open it – not when you buy it!!!!

Second step, group like items together, for example: mascara with mascara, blush with blush, etc. You could also use a second drawer for overstock items that can live nearby! For some of our clients, I like to label the drawer organizers with exactly what items are in the organizers. This helps when putting things back properly. Especially for those who travel frequently. This is also a good time to wipe off all the containers using a sanitizing wipe.

Now that you have purged and assessed exactly what you are going to keep, it’s time to shop for drawer organizers. There are lots of different types of organizers, so check out some of these from amazon: https://amzn.to/3xT9K5H, https://amzn.to/3Z3Sp63. Don’t forget to measure your drawers before you head to the store or going online to shop! Our clients always shop before purging and end up with the wrong products, or not the right sizes.

Last, but not least, if you don’t purge through your makeup often, it might be a good idea to put the expiration date on the back of your pallets, and mascara tubes. You can also sign up for automatic shipping of items from Sephora, for commonly used items!

I will be tackling the makeup drawers as well and I will take some before and after pictures for you. Send us your before and after pictures and let us know how you did. 😊
