January 2026 Reset | Tips From Tonia
Happy New Year to ALL of you! I am so blessed to bring you tips every single year. 2025 was a year of reflection and compassion for me. I wanted to say how thankful I am for each reader and client we have. I had the pleasure of leading our team this year with small challenges here and there, but we thrived in finding new organizers and serving new clients. This month, I wanted to talk about January reorganization & that reset works best when it’s simple, intentional, and realistic. Think of it as clearing space (physical + mental) so the year can flow better. Not a total life overhaul.
Here’s a clean, simple plan you can use!
- Start with a reset mindset
Before organizing anything, decide:
-
- What do I want less of this year? (clutter, stress, overcommitment)
- What do I want more of? (ease, focus, time, consistency)
This helps you keep only what supports that goal. This year, I am focusing on decluttering my electronic life. I hired Sorted Out® to help me with this, since time is so limited.
- Do a quick physical declutter (don’t overdo it)
Focus on high-impact areas, not your entire home.
Good January targets:
-
- Entryway (coats, bags, shoes)
- Closet (especially everyday clothes)
- Desk/workspace
- Kitchen junk drawer
- Bathroom cabinets/drawers
Rule of thumb:
If you haven’t used it in the last year and it doesn’t support your life now, let it go. I did this in my closet and hired a stylist to do this. I am at the age where I need to make sure clothes are appropriate, LOL. In my brain, I still think I am 25, but my body is much older.
Set a timer for 30–45 minutes per area so it doesn’t feel endless. This is especially good for our ADD’ers!
- Create simple “homes” for things
Organization sticks when things are easy to put away.
Ask for each area:
-
- Where should this live?
- Can I put it away in one step?
Examples:
-
-
- One basket for incoming mail
- One tray for daily essentials (keys, wallet, charger)
- One folder for active papers only
-
If it takes more than one step, you won’t maintain it. This is very typical for most of our clients. Really visualize where things make sense to go!
- Do a digital reset (huge mental relief)
This part is often overlooked but very powerful.
Quick wins:
-
- Clear your phone home screen (keep only daily-use apps)
- Unsubscribe from emails you ignore
- Delete old screenshots
- Organize files into: Active/Reference/Archive
Even 20 minutes here makes a big difference. I am practicing this daily, and I have reduced my email clutter by about an HOUR a day. Think of what you could do with that hour back to yourself or your business.
- Reset your routines (not your whole life)
Instead of big resolutions, reset 2–3 core routines.
Examples:
-
-
- Morning: phone-free first 20 minutes
- Weekly: 15-minute Sunday reset (tidy + plan) I include menu planning on my Sundays, and it helps me stay focused on meal prep.
- Evening: prep tomorrow’s top 3 tasks
-
Small, repeatable routines beat ambitious plans.
- Choose themes, not pressure goals
Instead of strict resolutions, pick 1–2 guiding themes.
Examples:
-
-
- “Simplify”
- “Consistency over intensity”
- “Less rushing”
- “Protect my energy”
-
Use the theme to guide decisions throughout the year.
- Write a short “January intention list.”
Keep it light and motivating:
-
- 3 things to focus on
- 3 habits to support them
- 3 things to let go of
Put this somewhere visible—it becomes your anchor.
Remember, resetting is about being intentional and sticking to the plan. We all need accountability partners, and if this is you, reach out to us; we would love to help! Going on almost 22 years in organization, I promise you, we will be gentle, and we are non-judging!
Happy Organizing!
