New-Year-Resolutions-for-ADHD-Blog

Happy New Year! We had another incredible year in 2022 here at Sorted Out and we have YOU to thank for that. We feel so blessed to be able to offer our assistance and expertise to make your life easier. It’s also a dream come true to be able to service our hometown areas. You keep us busy, on our toes, but most importantly, grateful. We are so excited to see what 2023 has in store for us all! With the New Year finally here, we thought it would be helpful to talk about New Year’s resolutions for those with ADD/ADHD. Resolutions aren’t for everyone, but we love that they help us set our intention for the upcoming year. While these tips are specifically laid out with our ADD/ADHD customers and readers in mind, we believe they’ll be helpful for anyone looking to set their organizing resolutions this year!

Write it Out

What organizing projects do you want to tackle this year? Think of any and everything that you feel would make your life easier once accomplished! Once you have a long (or short!) list of organizing goals, split them up into priorities; what needs to be tackled first? Does one project have to occur before another can begin? Put them in order.

Create a Calendar

Now you can divvy those organization goals up by month. Setting monthly goals not only helps you feel more in control and less overwhelmed when glancing at your list, but it also creates a nice checklist that you can look back on each week moving forward to keep yourself on track towards achieving those goals! Realizing and accepting that you can’t “do it all” right now is the first key to success. After they have been assigned a month, add smaller tasks under each topic that are crucial steps to be taken towards tackling those goals. Including small “action” goals you can focus on throughout the month will help keep your list manageable.

Accountability

Many of our clients with ADD/ADHD struggle to remain motivated and on task. Finding an accountability partner or “body double” can be a huge help here. Accountability partners will be tasked with frequent check-ins, keeping you motivated and moving forward. Expect frequent check-ins with this person. A body double is someone who will physically be with you in order to keep you moving towards your goal. Having someone in the same room as you can help keep you on task and focused. If you start to wander off or lose focus, they are right there to help you reset. Oftentimes a body double comes in the form of a roommate, parent, or partner who frequently spends time in your vicinity.

Celebrate the Small Wins

Remember those small goals we mentioned above? Once you’ve completed them, celebrate!! We absolutely recommend celebrating victories no matter how small. When you feel that sense of pride, you stay motivated. These small victories give you a taste of accomplishment which can be crucial to keeping you going during the slumps. Once you get a taste of winning, you won’t want to give up!

We know that this can be an overwhelming task, daunting at first, and hard to motivate oneself. If that sounds like you, let us help! Reach out to us anytime at info@sortedout.com.
